Scream 7 News: Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott Is Back!
There have been a lot of rumors and fan guesses, but today we finally got some confirmed Scream 7 news! And Sidney Prescott is back, baby. Neve Campbell announced on Instagram today she is returning to the Scream Franchise, and will reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott with original creator Kevin Williamson at the helm in Spyglass Media Group's Untitled Scream 7.
Along with a picture of the script, Campbell posted a sweet message to creator of the Scream franchise, Kevin Williamson. "I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby, and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist, but has been a dear friend for many years."
Williamson then confirmed his involvement by resharing Campbell's post with a heartfelt note of his own, writing, "It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise."
"I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Thank you to all the Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps giving," the caption continued.
Guy Busick (Scream, 2022 and Scream VI) is taking over the screenwriting reins as James Vanderbilt is on location directing Nuremberg. Vanderbilt will continue to produce alongside his Project X Entertainment partners William Sherak and Paul Neinstein (Scream, 2022 and Scream VI). Radio Silence will serve as executive producers.
Neve Campbell is a highly accomplished actress known for her work in both film and television. She gained recognition for her role as Julia Salinger in the critically acclaimed series Party of Five. However, it was her starring role in the first installment of the Scream franchise and her performance in the erotic thriller Wild Things that made her a household name. Campbell has starred in hit films such as the action thriller Skyscraper, the Disney biographical drama Clouds, and The Company, which she produced, and was directed by Robert Altman. On television, Campbell currently stars in the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer. Recently she starred in the Peacock series Twisted Metal, in the Netflix political thriller series House of Cards, and in the AMC series Mad Men.
Williamson wrote the original Scream (1996) as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4. In television, he’s credited for creating such hit series as Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries, and The Following, to name a few. Williamson made his directorial debut in 1999 with the theatrical release of Teaching Mrs. Tingle, in which he also wrote. Most recently, Williamson announced an overall deal with Universal Television where he has several new TV series in the works.
Scream is a long-running, genre-busting horror franchise which previously generated four feature films including Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011), directed by famed "maestro of horror," the late Wes Craven. The first four films went on to gross more than $600 million in worldwide box office receipts.
The franchise relaunched with the fifth installment, Scream, in 2022. The latest outing, Scream VI, released theatrically worldwide in March 2023, and currently holds the franchise record for highest domestic box office gross (more than $108 million), previously held by the original Scream, and has taken in more than $169 million worldwide.
