Which Of These 25 Bada** Female Horror Characters Would Be The Final, Final Girl?

Final girls are the female horror characters who use their wits, strength, and determination to make it to the end of the film, and are often the last one standing. Some famous final girls include Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) from the Scream franchise, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) from the Halloween franchise, and Deena Johnson from the Fear Street trilogy.

These women are fierce contenders, but who would be the final, final girl, if they were all in a movie together? Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise has shown time and time again what a warrior she is. Erin from You’re Next has the benefit of a background growing up on a survivalist compound, so she is certainly not someone to mess with - at least not if you want to come out of the situation alive. Meanwhile, Adelaide from Us has been fighting for her life since she was a literal child. She will do whatever it takes to keep herself and her loved ones safe.

1. Ellen Ripley

female horror characters
Alien c/o 20th Century Fox

Played by: Sigourney Weaver

OG film: Alien

Whether you consider the Alien franchise to be horror or sci-fi, etc., there is no denying that Ellen Ripley is tough as nails. She’s one of the few women on a spaceship in an industry that is also male-dominated. And yet, after the xenomorph violently escapes from the chest of Kane (John Hurt), the ship’s executive officer, Ripley is the one who takes charge, discovers the truth about Ash (Ian Holm), and manages to escape the alien, and save a cat in the process.

2. Laurie Strode

female horror characters
Halloween Kills c/o Universal Pictures

Played by: Jamie Lee Curtis

OG film: Halloween

Laurie Strode is a fighter, and has been battling Michael Myers since she was a teenager. She’s willing to risk herself to protect others, and is inventive and clever enough to turn her own home into a giant trap for the Haddonfield boogeyman. She knows how to use all kinds of weapons, and will never back down from a fight. People have demeaned her, called her crazy, and even villainized her for - God forbid - getting a divorce. A badass final girl if there ever was one, played by a real badass. Iconic.

3. Naru

female horror characters
Prey c/o Hulu

Played by: Amber Midthunder

OG film: Prey

Naru, a young Comanche woman, is at first underestimated, because of her gender. However, she can hunt with the best of them, which she proves when the tribe faces its biggest threat yet, the Predator. Throughout the film she outsmarts the creature, cleverly setting traps to trick it, and disable it. Naru is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

She basically takes on a bunch of assassins all by herself, while also trying to instruct some of Crispian’s (A.J. Bowen) family members on how to help those who are injured. The odds are definitely in Erin’s favor.

6. Sidney Prescott

female horror characters
Scream c/o Dimension Films

Played by: Neve Campbell

OG film: Scream

Sidney Prescott has fought off nine Ghostface killers throughout the first five Scream films. She persists, despite the fact that she is consistently losing the people who mean the most to her in horrific ways. She is resourceful, turning whatever she can - a TV, an umbrella, an ice pick - into a weapon to take down the killer. Between media scrutiny, the drama with Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber), and being continuously pursued by killers wearing the same Halloween costumes, Sidney is mentally strong, calm in chaos, and a top contender for final, final girl.

Happy Death Day c/o Universal Pictures

13. Clear Rivers

female horror characters
Final Destination c/o New Line Cinema

Played by: Ali Larter

OG film: Final Destination

Clear Rivers is smart, intuitive, and trusts her senses. She saw Alex (Devon Sawa) flip out on the plane after his premonition, and just had a gut feeling that he was right. Afterwards, she was quick to put the pieces together about signs, and paying attention to the clues that Death is on its way for them. She's a great ride or die for Alex, and can keep calm under pressure. She's fought Death itself, so she can probably handle anything.

14. Adelaide Wilson

female horror characters
Us c/o Universal Pictures

Played by: Lupita Nyong'o

OG film: Us

Adelaide is a warrior from jump. She encounters her doppelgänger in a hall of mirrors in a funhouse when she is a child, and uses the opportunity to trade places with her. She is one woman, fighting for her life while being chased on her opponent’s turf. The odds could not have been more against Grace, but she is a fighter, and refuses to give up. OG film: The Descent

Just minutes into The Descent, Sarah faces the worst thing she could imagine, losing her husband and daughter in a car accident. Thirteen Ghosts c/o Warner Bros. Pictures

OG film: Thirteen Ghosts

Maggie Bess is the children's nanny in Thirteen Ghosts, and she manages to keep them safe, without having to sacrifice herself, which is often the case in horror films. She is the one who disrupts the machine, releasing the ghosts, and causing the machine to go haywire, which leads to the demise of their captor and aids in their eventual escape. Maggie is the only character not attacked by a ghost, despite coming across the most, with the aid of the spectral viewers. She may quit her job as soon as the family escapes the mansion, but that's after having been the hero, helping to save the day. Talk about going above and beyond for your job.
