Yes, Michael C. Hall Will Be Involved in Both 'Dexter: Original Sin' and 'Dexter: Resurrection'
Michael C. Hall fans, rejoice. Dexter may have died in Dexter: New Blood, but that doesn't mean he is gone.
The actor recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the upcoming prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin is "informing" his performance in the upcoming sequel series (?) Dexter: Resurrection. "The scripts they've executed are fantastic. I can't wait, like, as a fan, to watch it, and as an actor, to spend time seeing real footage of the things that I've sort of tried to imagine for myself when I imagine what Dexter's early days [were like]."
He continued, "Now I'm going to have this technicolor version of his memories to refer to. I think it will help inform my experience of whatever comes next in the other series, which I can only speak vaguely about at this point." Hall's involvement was first revealed during the Dexter: Original Sin panel during Comic-Con 2024.
After sharing the video for the new opening credits — which recreate the iconic and gruesome breakfast sequence from the OG Dexter — the actor took the stage with the rest of the cast, and fans were informed that he would be voicing the inner monologue of young dexter in Dexter: Original Sin.
However, that's not all. He will also be returning as the titular character in the series Dexter: Resurrection. "It’s pretty heady. It’s so gratifying," Hall said of returning to the franchise. "I’m on the inside to a certain degree and I have a sense of what’s coming but I’m really excited. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back and have all the imaginative blanks filled in is going to be great."
Hall's Dexter is returning for the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection, which is set to debut on Paramount+ in the summer of 2025. Does it make sense after the events of Dexter: New Blood? No, of course it doesn't, because we all watched Dexter die. That being said, long live Dexter because I absolutely love Hall's portrayal of him, and will happily continue to watch as long as new seasons are being made.
Dexter: Original Sin takes place in Miami in 1991 — 15 years before the OG show began. In this iteration, Dexter is played by Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone), and follows the young man as he is taught Harry's code prior to becoming a prolific serial killer. Harry Morgan, by the way, is played by none other than iconic Heathers bad boy, Christian Slater.
Sarah Michelle Gellar also stars in the series, as CSI Chief Tanya Martin, with Patrick Dempsey playing Captain Aaron Spencer of the Miami Metro Police Department. Dexter: Original Sin premieres in December.
